What Is Your Dog Trying To Tell You?For dog training to be successful you must be able to communicate with your dog. To communicate with your dog you need to know what is on his mind and what he is trying to tell you. Dogs communicate by using vocal sounds, body postures and facial expressions. If you don’t recognize what your dog is telling you, you may never be able to communicate. This article will give you tips and hints for understanding your dog so that you can more effectively communicate with him. When your dog lifts his ears and tail and his hackles rise up he is in an obvious aggressive mode, especially if he also stiffens his body and walks slowly in a stiff-legged manner. If he raises his hackles and his lip, but also crouches and tucks his tail he is both threatened and afraid. He wants to run and fight at the same time. A calm reassuring tone from you should help ease the tension. If your dog slinks close to the ground, wags his tail between his legs, flattens his ears or rolls unto his back, he is being submissive and will be agreeable to whatever you want. When your dog is excited his body may wriggle all over and he may even roll his lips back in a canine smile. Pay close attention to your dog, when you see him suddenly close his mouth and stop panting, he is thinking about doing something or is focusing on something. You can bet, he’ll soon be on the move… either to take up the great new activity he just thought of, or to give a closer inspection to what just caught his attention. These are just a few quick insights into how your dog’s mind works. Through understanding what your dog is trying to say, you will learn how to more effectively communicate with him. By more effectively communicating with him, your dog training efforts will be much more successful. |
